An apple as a mean to promote MUSE. The best known among all the Trentino typical products accompanied MUSE, the new Museum of Science, to the Ecsite Annual Conference (European Network of Science Centres and Museums), held in Milan, Italy, at the Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci” from 4 through 6 June, 2009. The talk concerned “Science Centers and the role of the interactive, non-academic public understanding of science”.
Ecsite is the European network for science centres and museums, linking science communication professionals in more than 400 institutions in 50 countries. Founded 20 years ago, Ecsite connects member institutions through projects and activities and facilitates the exchange of ideas and best practice on current issues. 1000 professionals in the field of science communication flocked to Milan’s Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci for the opening event of the Ecsite Annual Conference 2009.
To celebrate Ecsite’s 20th anniversary, the 2009 Annual Conference focused on the evolution and revolutions taking place for science centers and museums. Among the topics considered, the program analyzed:
- New methods, approaches, theories, codes and languages in science communication
- New goals and a new role for science centers in European societies
- New professional roles, training and skills in the field
- New scientific content for scientific exhibitions and programs
- New methods to reach new audiences and engage visitors
- New media and technologies
